Freedom of Expression Rally

A delegation of Civil Liberty supporters made the trip to central London on Saturday 25th March 2006 to attend the Freedom of Expression Rally organised by an alliance of seemingly disparate groups, all coming together to pledge support for Freedom of Expression in the wake of the Muslim organised protests against the Danish cartoons. Some of the organisers of the event were on the receiving end of tirades of abuse from Muslims present because some protestors had brought along copies of the Danish cartoons on placards. This infuriated some of the "moderate" Muslim organisations who were in attendance. At one point a gang of about 20 young militant Islamicists tried to shout down the speakers and distribute leaflets but the Met corraled the trouble-makers and kept them away from the rest of the rally.

The crowd begins to gather in Trafalgar Square
Many more continue to arrive
Several religious groups were represented
As Danish patriots show up, the media take interest
More Danish supporters..
...proudly unfurl their national flag in defiance of police orders
An English patriot shows solidarity
What this rally is all about
The Danes display their sense of humour
The cartoons which sparked riots around the world
Uh..oh! A gang of jihadists arrive
Swiftly contained and spoken to by top officers from the Met.
